SNAPE WITH THORP PARISH COUNCIL

NEWSLETTER – March 2021

  1. The Parish Council (PC) met on Tuesday 23 March. This newsletter provides an update on a number of issues discussed at the meeting.

  1. Outline Planning application for up to 32 houses on the Manor House (Prices Pavings Ltd) site (reference 20/02047/OUT). The determination of the application continues to be delayed due to issues to do with highways, flooding and affordable housing.

  1. The Parish Council has a new websitewww.snapewiththorp.co.uk This has been developed by a local company and is currently being populated with data covering the activities of the Council. The website will also include sections for local community groups and a list of parish based businesses; if you wish your business to be included please contact the Clerk. Linked to the new website is a new email for the Clerk – Sarah can now be contacted on clerk@snapewiththorp.co.uk

  1. Recently a letter was sent to all landowners and businesses in the parish to ask for their cooperation when driving through the village especially in the narrower sections by keeping to an appropriate speed level. The Council continues to explore the possibility of speed activation equipment. However, the costs are high. The possibility of purchasing and sharing the equipment with other Councils is being explored.

  1. The Mobile Post Office Service for Snape visits the village on Tuesdays at 11.15 to 12.15. Recently the bus has found the required parking space blocked by other vehicles; if you park in this area please make sure the space close to the main village green is left available for the post bus.

  1. As mentioned last month, the Council will be installing kerbing on the south side of the beck. A grant towards the costs has has been provided through the NYCC Locality budget for which the Council is very grateful. Should additional funds become available kerbing between the Institute and Phone Box will be considered. We would respectfully ask all to take care of the verges and greens to avoid any further damage and erosion.

  1. The volunteer group who have been undertaking maintenance around the village will shortly re-commence clearing the beck of weed. The Council is very grateful for the efforts of the volunteers.

  1. A number of dog owners have been noticed taking their pets into the village playing field. The Council wishes to make it very clear that dogs are prohibited from entering the playing field.

  1. A proposal to plant trees at the south end of the playing field was discussed. A number of issues were identified with such a proposal. However, the Council will in due course wish to seek the views of the wider community.

  1. The Council is exploring repairs to the fences on the field side of the avenue.

  1. Mole season is on us and as we move into the grass cutting season we invite your help in levelling off any molehills you come across on parish grass as they do damage to the contractor’s grass cutting equipment. All you need to do is knock the soil over and level it for us.

  1. Meetings of the Council continue to be held on-line using Zoom. However, it is possible for members of the public to “attend” these meetings – please contact Sarah Lowe, Clerk, for details. It is hoped to hold the annual open parish meeting in early May – further details will follow.

  1. If you have any queries or comments to make regarding the Parish Council please contact the Clerk.
